Writing Stand Still

This song is probably the song that truly means the most to me. I wrote it when I was just about to graduate college-I had really no idea what I wanted to do with my life. I was so torn between my heart and my head that I sat down and put all my feelings on paper.

I thought about the girl I was while growing up- I was fearless.

We all have that fearless kid inside of us. The one who grew up knowing that they could be anything in the world they wanted..a rockstar, a surgeon, the first girl in the NBA. Until the world starts putting you in a box. It’s up to you to shut them up, hard.

The people that run this world are no different than you and I. They had a dream, a vision, and were determined to see it through. You can learn as you go, the first step is going at it full force.

“Destiny favors those prepared in mind, body, and spirit”

These days when the cold hits the morning, now you’re gone and you’re on your own.
Same things keep on rolling now you’re wonderin if you’ll ever make it home.
Steady waiting, without a hand for you to hold.
Anticipating, how far that this will go.
Now I’m feeling like I’m running out of precious time, with no direction.
An anxious mind follows where I go,
Another day to feel the thrill, stuck at a stand still.
Those night that you stayed up dreamin away all the endless possibilities.
The 13 year old self of a girl who knew exactly who she’d be
The second you stop dreamin the magic of the world just seems to fade
But you gotta believe it, from the second you dream it, don’t hold back you can’t lose that
Now I’m feeling like I’m running out of precious time, with no direction.
An anxious mind follows where I go,
How do you try to hide the fear of deciding when, where, what you’ll do
Another day to feel the thrill, stuck at a stand still.

Here’s The Deal

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine as children do. It’s not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own lights shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

I’ve always found blog posts to be very self-centered and the idea of sharing every waking moment with the world who more than likely couldn’t give a shit less, intrusive. With that being said, I need to document the journey.

Those of you closest to Danny and I know we have been at this for about 10 years. We started playing together in high school, played throughout college, and now here we are. Danny living in Nashville while I have spent the last year in Cleveland with an amazing job, yet feeling my dreams getting further out of reach. That was until last week.

I’ve decided to stop hoping and praying, and start taking action.

This will document our adventure–traveling between Cleveland and Nashville, playing music, and to start shining the way our 16-year-old selves always wanted.
